It’s Okay To Have Many Little Loves

She tried not to fall for the possible truth that she might be falling in love with him.

The moment she laid eyes on him, she knew this was it. The tension between them was eccentric and the air was charged. Anyone within a one-mile radius could sense the romance forming between them. Almost like a Nicholas Sparks story.

He stared at her from across the bar and held her gaze a minute too long, for formal purposes. She stood there and attempted to hide the flush that was slowly but surely making its way up to her face. There was something about the way his navy blue shirt brought out different shades of the ocean in his eyes. His chest broad. His forearms toned. Letting her know that he was capable of putting in the work when required.

His blonde hair, cut in the form of a marine style skin fade. He approached her and asked for her, how her night was going. She noticed he had the undertones of a Southern accent and had the manners of a well-raised man. They shared memories from different parts of the globe and he asked her hand for a dance to a classic John Legend song. She noticed their moves were in sync almost as though their bodies had found a rhythm of their own. She tried not to notice the dimples that formed on either side of his cheeks when he smiled at her stories. She tried not to fall for his charm when he held the door open for her.

But most importantly she tried not to fall for the possible truth that she might be falling in love with him.

When her fiancé left her at the wedding altar, everything she knew shattered to pieces. He had managed to turn someone who was loving and carefree, into a guarded and quiet soul. The one person who she’d imagined was her ultimate big romance, left her with nothing but a large gaping hole in her heart.

But for the first time that evening on the first day of Autumn. As the leaves took on different shades of caramel honey. She let go and smiled at the man in front of her. As they walked out of the jazz bar, their fingers entwined more firmly than ever. She realized that maybe life was never about settling for that one big romance. Maybe it was about the ‘big little’ romances that left you breathless and at peace all at once. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
