Though The Seasons Change, His Love Remains

When you feel that the world is on top of you, pray.

A lyric in “Seasons Change” by United Pursuit reminded me of the depths of God’s love: “Though the seasons change, Your love remains.”

Our God is a God of all seasons. Not just the spring, summer, fall, and winter. Our God is the same throughout, during both the good times and the bad times. His presence remains, regardless of how close we are to Him or how far we have strayed.

James 5:13 says, “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.”

It’s easy to praise God during the good times — but it is also easy to forget to be grateful during these times. When we get caught up in the adrenaline and excitement of it all, we may get carried away by our success. When we feel like we are on top of the world, we don’t normally on first instinct think of the possibility of falling back down again.

But let us talk about the “bad times” — the times when we feel trapped and surrounded by pressure.

The times when we are dealing with the shock of a loved one passing. The times when we are dealing with a complete loss of purpose. The times when we are dealing with situations and emotions that even we ourselves are unable to make sense of. The times when we completely doubt our worth. The times when the darkness around us feels endless. The times when we are desperately trying to grasp on hope in any form. The times when we feel that our afflictions have finally become bigger than us.

Those times.

It is in those times that we forget that the One who holds the world has always been holding on to us. There were a few lyrics in NF’s “Oh Lord” that describes our response to crisis perfectly: “It’s easy to blame God, but harder to fix things… Which is funny, everyone will sleep in the pews, then blame God for our problems like He sleeping on you.” It’s hard to look up towards hope when you’ve reached the stage when you feel that everything has been drained out of you. It’s hard to believe that He’s still there when you feel disconnected from everyone and everything in your life. Trust me, I know this too.

You may feel that you’ve become weaker than the person that you were. You may feel disappointed and discouraged with yourself. But I hope that you remember that though the seasons change, His love for you remains. I hope you know that although we alone are not strong, we have a God that is bigger than all of our afflictions. I hope you once again remind yourself that you always had someone to turn to, even when you feel that the world is against you. I hope you know that His love for you is greater than any love you can find from this world. I hope you know that He is ever ready to speak life into you — only if your heart is open to it.

Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

You may not be ready to hear all of this now. You may still be in the midst of feeling lost. You may still be in denial of what you are feeling. I want you to know that it’s okay that you feel the way that you do. But I hope you take comfort in the assurance that you’ve always had Him to turn to — whenever you are ready to turn back to Him.

When you feel that the world is on top of you, pray.

When you feel that you’re on top of the world, praise.
