Life Is Too Short For Bad Friendships

People grow apart. People change. Friendships do as well. Someone who served you at 15 may not serve you at 25. Don’t feel obligated or forced to have someone in your life.

Sometimes you have done all you can. Sometimes you have to accept the fact that we grow apart from people who mean a lot to us. People who we grew up with. People we thought would always be in our lives.

And sometimes you have to let them watch your life from afar. Because when they continually show you that you don’t matter, you have to let them go. People who put in minimal effort. People who only reach out when they need something. When you only hear from them on their own time.

Having a past or history with someone doesn’t mean they are entitled to be in your life. Friendships require effort on both ends. One-sided friendships aren’t fair to anyone. They take until you have nothing left to give.

And for that reason, you let them go. You wish them well, but you don’t go out of your way to be in their life. They gave up on you. You don’t owe them anything. Life is too short for bad friendships.

People grow apart. People change. Friendships do as well. Someone who served you at 15 may not serve you at 25. Don’t feel obligated or forced to have someone in your life. If a friendship is draining you, let it go.

Someone who doesn’t value you doesn’t add value to your life. So no matter the history, learn it’s okay to let go. It’s okay to let go of friends who make you feel bad about yourself. It’s okay to let go of people who you are constantly trying to cancel plans with. It’s okay to let go of people who stress you out when they talk to you. You don’t owe anyone anything.

Except yourself. You owe it to yourself to only allow quality people in your life. And sometimes that means cutting others off. It may be beneficial to both parties. And while someone may be hurt by this, realize that it’s for the best. Because in one sided friendships, everyone loses.

Learn to let go gracefully and allow room for people who value you. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
