I Have No Idea What I’m Doing, But I’m Letting Myself Enjoy The Ride

And that is most the beautiful thing about living and growing and getting older and wiser, filling in the pieces to your own puzzle.

So, you went to college. You have fun for four years or a little more. You studied, learned more about yourself than you thought possible.

You spread your wings a little bit, found out you were good at something that you never thought you could be. Found hobbies and interests and spent many, many sleepless nights.

Made some good friends. Some stayed and some went. Went on adventures, stressed yourself out, dealt with a little heartbreak here and there.

And you still came out on top right?

You graduated, your parents were proud and no one could stop asking you what you were going to be next.

Fast forward two or three or four years later and where are you? If you’re anything like me, or like most of the people I know, you’re around. But you don’t really have it figured out yet.

Maybe you got a great job, maybe you’re serving tables. Maybe you found the love of your life when you were traveling and have never stopped moving. And that’s working out for you.

And the truth is, all of that is more than okay.

The world is moving so fast now. There’s no clear path, there’s no right or wrong way to get where we want to go. The only really important thing that I’ve learned, is that wherever you are, you are.

And that is most the beautiful thing about living and growing and getting older and wiser, filling in the pieces to your own puzzle.

You finally get it. No one has any clue what their next move is. No one has all the answers and no one is more sure of their footing than the person standing next to them.

Look around you. Where you are right at this moment, that matters.

You’ve made it this far. And there’s no point in craning your neck towards the past or squinting to see the future. Because like they say, one already happened. And the other one has yet to come.

I think that we all have moments of self-doubt. And that can’t really be helped. We all look at everyone we know or grew up with or have ever known and think, they’re doing so much better than me. They have this job or this going for them, or they have a partner to help them get through everything, their getting engaged, they bought a house, they have seen the seven wonders.

The list goes on and on.

And while it might feel like you’re at a standstill, the real and honest truth is that you shouldn’t be anywhere but exactly where you are, doing exactly what it is that you are doing.

Even if it doesn’t feel that way now, you are walking towards one thing and away from another and both of those things are important.

You don’t owe anyone an explanation to your last steps or the ones you are currently breaking ground on.

So, don’t be so hard on yourself! You haven’t given up. You haven’t quite even though some days it would be much easier to just let yourself go.

Let the world crash down around you.

But the world around you, you’re life, is something that is a work in progress. Everyone’s always is.

The only thing you should be worried about is where you can take yourself next, how much higher you can climb, and the better, kinder and smarter person you can be.

No one has it all together, no matter what their Instagram tells you.

It’s impossible in this day and age not to feel like rather than walking side by side with everyone else, you’re falling behind.

But in reality, you are nowhere near failing. You’re actually soaring upward.

Stop for one single second and appreciate yourself. Be thankful and be humble, but don’t put yourself down. Ride to the wave that you’re on, whatever that means and looks and feels to you.

Nothing is perfect. Life is messy. And figuring yourself out takes time and more importantly, it takes trial and effort and error.

You read all three of those right.

Take a deep breath, and try to remember that the journey and the bumpy road, it’s all worth it. And maybe not even in the end, like we are all so used to hearing.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s worth it right now.
