Kim Kardashian Is Getting Torn Apart by Doctors for Letting 13-Year-Old North West Pierce the Backs of Her Hands
A board-certified dermatologist looked at 13-year-old North West’s pierced hands and said, “Just don’t do it.”

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s 13-year-old daughter has spent the last year turning the backs of her hands into a canvas of dermal piercings, and the doctors watching are not staying quiet.

“Long term, these piercings can lead to hypertrophic scars, hyperpigmentation, disfigurement and loss of function of the body part where the piercing is done, particularly in patients with highly melanated skin, like North West,” Dr. Corey Hartman, a board-certified dermatologist and medical director of Skin Wellness Dermatology, told the New York Post.
North started with a single dermal piercing on her middle finger last September, at 12. The now-13-year-old has since added more across her fingers and hands, a collection she referenced in her debut single, “Piercing on My Hand.” Her Instagram debut of the look showed visible discoloration and scarring near the piercing sites.

Kardashian, North’s primary caregiver since splitting from Ye in 2021, has been open about letting her daughter express herself through experimental clothes, aquamarine hair, and chunky footwear. Neither she nor North seems bothered by the criticism. On their shared TikTok, the two told fans “It’s OK,” and North posted a video aimed at “everyone that’s mad over a finger piercing.”
Not everyone thinks the backlash is fair. Amy McCready, founder of Positive Parenting Solutions, told The Independent the call comes down to the child’s maturity, not just age. “I think we have to give Kim Kardashian the benefit of the doubt that she’s had the conversation with North. She must have a level of confidence that her daughter can handle this,” she said.

North is about to embark on her first tour as a signed music artist.
