If You Were Still Alive, You Would Be Here For The Wedding

If you were still alive, then you would have been so happy. You would have loved to taste the cake and hear the music and watch the first dance. You would have loved every second of it.

If you were still alive, then you would have flipped out when you heard the news. You would be fawning over the ring, you would be asking to see the engagement video on repeat, you would be volunteering to help pick out the dress. You would want to be involved with every last detail.

If you were still alive, you would be counting down the days until the wedding. You wouldn’t shut up about it. You would help find the perfect venue and you would make calls to florists and you would recommend a caterer that you trusted. You would offer to pay for everything if you could afford it.

If you were still alive, you would be bragging about the day as if it was your own milestone — and in a way, it would be. You would be just as excited about the ceremony as the bride and the groom. You would be crying your eyes out as you listened to their vows, as you watched one of your favorite people in the world marry their favorite person in the world.

If you were still alive, you would be the person to keep everything together during the big day. If something went wrong — if the flowers were the wrong color or the best man showed up late or someone spilled beer across their suit — you would know exactly what to do. You would save the day. You would calm everyone down. You would fix every mistake. You would make sure that the day ran smoothly.

If you were still alive, then you would have the time of your life at the reception. You would be dancing with a drink in your hand to every song that played. You would be encouraging everyone else to get up and dance along with you. You would be snapping a million pictures on your phone so that you could save the memories for a lifetime.

If you were still alive, then you would have been so happy. You would have loved to taste the cake and hear the music and watch the first dance. You would have loved every second of it.

If you were still alive, you would single-handedly make the new member of the family feel like they belonged. You would make them feel like they were loved. You would make them feel the way you made everyone else feel — like they actually mattered.

If you were still alive, then the wedding would be a little less bittersweet. There wouldn’t be an empty chair. There wouldn’t be an unspoken disappointment. There wouldn’t be an air of sadness hanging around. No one would have to say that you would have been so proud or that you would have loved to be here or that you’re looking down from heaven and watching.

If you were still alive, you would be so excited about the wedding. And even though you’re gone, I know you still are. I know you’ll still be there. I know you’ll still be watching. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
