Things I Want You To Know If Life Ever Tears Us Apart
If one day life separates us and our paths never cross again, remember that the time we had together has forever graced my life with genuine happiness, a love that goes beyond human comprehension, and a glimmer of hope that never ceases to give light in the midst of chaos.
Have you ever looked at someone you love and wondered what would happen if they were taken away from you?
They say that parting is such sweet sorrow; lucky for some people, goodbyes only meant “see you tomorrow” or “until we meet again.” Kind of like knowing that two stars in the sky will inevitably collide again someday—the end of missing someone.
But the greatest tragedy of all is the one you never saw coming; the one that reaches the point of no return, the kind that left you with no goodbyes.
One minute it felt like you had forever to look forward to, but then one day you wake up and realize they’re simply gone. Sometimes, it’s not the parting itself that breaks you, but the moments you took for granted to tell the people you love what you should’ve when you had the chance.
We also have to accept the reality that there are things in life that are beyond our control. Maybe we let the idea of forever consume us so excessively that we easily lose sight of simple things that truly matter, like living in the moment and spending time with our loved ones.
Most life-altering circumstances that we encounter in our journey are given to us for a reason. The sad part about it is only realizing its purpose when it’s too late. Then we fall through the cracks, we wallow in despair, and somewhere along, we lose our way.
Perhaps the misadventures in life happen to remind us to reevaluate our priorities and to open our eyes to the good things we weren’t paying attention to in the past.
Oftentimes, it only takes a word to change our circumstances—saying hello to a stranger, yes to change, no to temptations, or even having the courage to bid farewell. Instead, we choose to be silent. And the words we leave unspoken are usually the ones that make all the difference.
If you keep bottling up your emotions, you’ll end up creating a room in your heart filled with regrets, resentments, or probably love that is awfully wasted on silence.
Sadly, there are things in life we have to learn the hard way. Don’t wait until the nick of time to express your gratitude, appreciation, and love to the ones who matter most because you’ll never know the last time you’ll have the chance to see your family, talk to your friends, explore a place, or when someone will take their last breath.
Mourning the loss of someone who is still alive is probably the most heartbreaking difficulty in life, especially if there was no closure.
How do you look at someone you have invested every fiber of your being in and see beyond the harsh reality that they gave up on you without a fight? How do you walk past the people who easily threw away years of friendship over a petty thing without hurting? How do you take away the pain experienced by a loved one suffering from a condition? How do you fight through life’s difficulties without breaking?
We could spend a lifetime searching for answers to our struggles, but sometimes we only have ourselves to blame for the circumstances that could’ve turned out positively had we chosen to act differently.
Relationships are a two-way street: Before you play the victim, make sure that you’re cleared of any shortcomings.
Maybe people leave or give up on us because we focus too much on their mistakes instead of appreciating the things they’ve done right.
Isn’t it unfortunate how hurtful things slide down our tongues smoothly but choke whenever we try to speak words of encouragement?
There are far too many good things locked up in our hearts that we refuse to express; simply because we let our fear of getting hurt or bruising our ego get the best of us. We could only carry the weight of the world to a certain extent and the last thing we need is someone who makes it heavier for us.
Things left unsaid will bite you back twice as hard. By then, there will be neither second chances nor redemption left to make the people we love stay.
Speak before time runs out; we don’t have forever.
To the people I hold close to my heart (and the ones I took for granted)—family, friends, lovers, colleagues, and acquaintances.
If one day life separates us and our paths never cross again, remember that the time we had together has forever graced my life with genuine happiness, a love that goes beyond human comprehension, and a glimmer of hope that never ceases to give light in the midst of chaos.
I will always be grateful for giving me the patience that love demands, the milestones and setbacks we have conquered hand-in-hand unceasingly, for choosing to share with me the best years of your youth, the sacrifices you’ve made to give me the best life possible, and for teaching me how to stand on my own and how to let go.
Forgive me with all your heart for all the times I fell short of reciprocating a love that could move mountains. Because of your unwavering faith in me, you stood by my side and believed that I am more than enough. But above all, you are my salvation, the miracle that rescued me from myself.
We may be worlds apart, but I’ll always keep you close to my heart.
Maybe, in another universe light years away, we could wait for the next collision. Perhaps we’ll be better for each other.
Until then, I’ll be missing you.
