Olivia Rodrigo Joined Smashing Pumpkins at Lollapalooza, 32 Years After the Band Last Played the Festival
Olivia Rodrigo sang “Thirty-Three,” a Smashing Pumpkins song from 1995 that’s older than she is.

Olivia Rodrigo keeps ending up on stage with the rock stars she grew up worshipping, and they keep saying yes.

The Smashing Pumpkins closed out the second day of Lollapalooza on July 31 with a run of their biggest hits, then started pulling guests up one at a time. Rodrigo took “Thirty-Three,” a Mellon Collie deep cut from 1995. YUNGBLUD came out for “Luna,” and former guitarist Melissa Auf der Maur returned for “The Everlasting Gaze.”

Corgan is only the latest. At Glastonbury 2025 she brought out Robert Smith for “Just Like Heaven” and “Friday I’m in Love.”

A year later she and Smith cut “What’s Wrong With Me” together, her first-ever featured collaboration on an album, and debuted it live at a surprise Primavera Sound set in June. She’s called Smith a personal hero for years and name-checks Cure songs across her catalog.

At Governors Ball in June 2025 she brought out David Byrne for “Burning Down the House,” trading verses and doing the Byrne dance moves next to him. He later covered “drivers license” for the song’s fifth anniversary, and they put the live collab on a limited 7-inch.

At her own Lollapalooza headline set in August 2025, she told the crowd Weezer was the first concert she ever attended, then brought Rivers Cuomo and the band out for “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So.” That one got a blue 7-inch too.
Then there’s Jack White, who she’s called her “hero of all heroes.” At the White Stripes’ 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, she performed “We’re Going to Be Friends” acoustic with Feist right after Jack’s speech. He’s left her handwritten notes, including one hidden in her SNL dressing room.

The set leaned on the classics: “1979,” “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “Today,” “Disarm,” “Cherub Rock,” “Zero.” Corgan’s mic cut out for the first few seconds of “1979” before it got fixed. Rain moved in about 45 minutes in, enough for fans to pull on ponchos and for some to head out early. It cleared in under 20 minutes.
