Eric Stonestreet Defends Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden Wedding: “Show Me Another Place” They Could Avoid the Helicopters and Hot Air Balloons

Eric Stonestreet was one of the guests inside Madison Square Garden when Taylor Swift married Travis Kelce, and he says the criticism over the venue misses the point. To him, an arena built to move famous people through hidden tunnels was the one place the couple could get a normal wedding.

Stonestreet and his wife Lindsay Schweitzer almost deleted the invitation, thinking it was spam. “We couldn’t verify with anybody. We just had to trust it was real,” the “Modern Family” actor told Chiefs Wire in an interview published Wednesday.

A lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, the 54-year-old has known Kelce for years and pushed back on the backlash over the July 3 ceremony. He argued that a public arena, where Swift has performed before, gave the couple cover no traditional venue could.

MSG was a practical pick for exactly that reason. The arena was designed for celebrities and athletes, with private corridors, service tunnels and restricted entrances that let VIP guests come and go without ever crossing paths with the public.

Adam Sandler, Kelce’s “Happy Gilmore 2” costar, officiated. The bride and groom both wore Christian Dior Haute Couture, and the guest list ran from Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes to Ed Sheeran and Zoë Kravitz.

“They created a night that felt normal in these extraordinary situations,” Stonestreet said. “We were just happy for them.”
