A Hero; a person, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

Not to make light of recent events, but damn it is good to read about a real life hero. Last week, Aaron Ybarra open fired on a Seattle Campus. While reloading, Jon Meis subdued him first with pepper spray and then put him in a choke hold. Ybarra’s shooting spree was over.

Meis is a teaching assistant who was working as a security desk monitor when the shooting happened. After Meis disarmed Ybarra several people jumped on the gunman and pinned him down.

As well as being a new hero, Jon Meis has a past of helping the less fortunate. According to a newspaper article from 2010 he participated in the Mississippi Katrina Relief Team. The organization helped reconstruct housing and distributed clothing/supplies for the survivors of the Hurricane. He also supported the troops in Iraq by send Christmas stockings for the 2007 and 2008 holiday seasons.

Jon Meis is set to be married later this month on June 21st. His wedding registry was found online and completely fulfilled by anonymous donors and his honeymoon has been paid for as well.
