Hate To Break It To You But Not Everyone Is Going To Like You
We convince ourselves that we must be loved by everybody, that the only way for happiness is that you’re 100% well liked. And that’s not the case.

Today a girl I sat next to in my 12th-grade math class unfriended me on Facebook. A few weeks before she removed me from her friends list on snapchat. I was confused, at first. What did I do to this person to make her want nothing to do with me? Especially since we haven’t spoken in quite some time, so it’s not like I could have said anything to offend her.
Did I share something on Facebook she didn’t agree with?
Do I post too many funny pictures?
Maybe she doesn’t care about my snapchat stories.
Maybe she thinks I’m weird.
I thought about it for a while. Worrying about what I must have done wrong. But then I came to my senses. Who cares? Why am I so concerned with what this one person, in a sea of billions of people thinks about me? This one person, who I’ll never, ever probably see again? Because we as people care too much. Way too much. We convince ourselves that every little thing we do matters, and that every single person on the planet should love us. We convince ourselves that we must be loved by everybody, that the only way for happiness is that you’re 100% well liked.
And that’s not the case.
People aren’t always going to like you. Some people are even going to hate you for what seems like literally no reason. We’re all different, and we certainly all have different beliefs and values. Some people think certain things are annoying, and some people love those things that others find annoying.
And you literally can’t do anything about it.
It can be hard to realize this. Hard to stick with it and remember it and make it a mantra you follow. But you can do it, I promise.
So, relax. I did. You’re you, and only you. And if somebody doesn’t like you or doesn’t care enough about you to see what you’re up too, who cares. Move on. Breathe.
They’re one person, that’s all.
Stay you, and focus on the ones who do care.
