What It’s Like To Fall In Love At First Sight

You can’t quite put your finger on it. You can’t explain the feeling in your body, the way your arms feel numb yet light as a feather at the same time.

You look up at a person and they suddenly mean the whole world to you. It washes over you like waves of calmness, more serene than any waterfall you stumble upon after hours of hiking.

They feel like home, yet you don’t even know what home is. This feeling is just bestowed on you, yet you barely know who this person is. All you can pick on is their mannerisms, their speech, and you find it quite appealing.

It’s far beyond a physical attraction. Butterflies are what you get when you find someone cute; sweat pours from your hands as you hope you don’t have to shake theirs. Being struck by someone’s looks is only a quarter of what you feel.

But love is something different. It’s an overwhelming alert in your body that screams, “This is it.” You accept them unconditionally from the start. All their flaws, their strengths, their quirks.

You don’t start having visions of when you’ll marry, but rather wonder what they drink in the morning. You don’t fantasize about how you two will be together, but rather accept the sight of them with full bliss.

Being in love with someone you don’t know can be utterly frightening, because you can’t possibly fathom what it’s like. Unless you have felt it yourself, no one understands you. Everyone thinks you’re exaggerating, but only you know the truth of it all.

You’ve never experienced it before until it hits you like a ton of bricks. You hear a voice in your head say, “There’s something that you need to know.” You scour through love movies and YA books to validate your feelings, because surely it’s written out there for two reasons: either it’s something we all wish to have or someone else has enveloped in this journey before.

Falling in love at first sight is like waking up and finding all is right in the world. You feel at peace when you’re with them, if you’re fortunate enough to be with them. Everything makes sense. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
