Whole Foods Says Its Jalapeno Recall Is on the Same Batch Behind the Taylor Farms Recall That’s Already Hospitalized 36 People

OMG, when will this end?

A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies Coast Citrus Distributors is the suspected source of a salmonella outbreak that’s sickened 345 people across 27 states and put 36 in the hospital.

Whole Foods said Wednesday it’s recalling select produce and prepared items, salsas, guacamole and pico de gallo among them, that contain jalapenos from that supplier. No illnesses have been tied to the Whole Foods products yet, according to the FDA.

“The only reason why we are issuing this recall is because the items include jalapeno peppers that were part of the Taylor Farms recall that issued over the weekend,” a Whole Foods spokesperson said, adding that all recalled products have been pulled from shelves.

Taylor Farms announced its own recall Monday, pulling prepared foods with jalapenos from retailers including Walmart and Whole Foods over the same contamination risk. It’s the same company behind a recent iceberg lettuce recall linked to a cyclospora outbreak, one of the largest foodborne illness events in recent U.S. history.

Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, and hits young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems hardest. Whole Foods says anyone who bought the products should throw them out and contact the store for a refund.
