Sid Wilson Got Kicked Out of Slipknot After Almost 30 Years, Months After His Split from Kelly Osbourne
He was one of the last men standing from Slipknot’s classic nine-member lineup, the guy in the gas mask who climbed venue rigging mid-show. The band told him Friday the run is over, closing out a year that also cost him his engagement to Kelly Osbourne.
Sid Wilson, 49, was told late Friday afternoon he’s permanently out of Slipknot after nearly 30 years, according to a source close to the band who spoke to TMZ. Neither the band nor Wilson has issued a statement, and reps haven’t responded to inquiries. No reason has been given.

Notably absent: the “creative decision” and “part ways” language the band used on its own website when it cut drummer Jay Weinberg in November 2023. This time there’s nothing.
Guitarist Jim Root posted an Instagram Story late Friday night that read, “Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.” It was soundtracked with Slipknot’s “Til We Die.” Root didn’t name Wilson or the TMZ report, so it isn’t a denial, but the timing has been read as a signal to slow the story down.

Wilson joined in early 1998 as the ninth piece of the lineup that broke the band with its 1999 self-titled debut. His exit leaves only Corey Taylor, Shawn “Clown” Crahan, Mick Thomson and Jim Root from that classic run. Bassist Paul Gray died of an accidental overdose in 2010, drummer Joey Jordison died in his sleep in 2021 after leaving in 2013, percussionist Chris Fehn was dismissed in 2019 over a pay dispute, and keyboardist Craig Jones exited in 2023 with no public explanation.
Wilson’s personal year has been rough. He announced his separation from Kelly Osbourne in March, ending their engagement seven months after he proposed backstage at her father’s final Black Sabbath show in Birmingham in 2025. In 2024 he suffered serious facial and arm burns in a bonfire accident on his Iowa farm. No source has connected either to the band’s decision.
Wilson and Osbourne first met 27 years ago through Ozzfest, the festival her parents founded. They share a 3-year-old son named Sidney, after his dad.
