Harbaugh’s Marriage Advice for Justin Herbert: “Attack Each Day With an Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind Together”

Justin Herbert says he was more nervous proposing to Madison Beer than he was starting his first NFL game at 22. His teammates weren’t surprised at all. One linebacker says he saw it coming a full season ago.

Herbert told reporters at Chargers training camp that the proposal made him more nervous than his first NFL start, which he made at age 22. He and Beer have been dating about a year and announced the engagement last week.

The two were first spotted together last summer on the set of a music video she was filming. They went public in Week 5 of the 2025 season with a kiss before Justin faced the Washington Commanders, and he later appeared in her “lovergirl” video, released in May on her “locket deluxe” album.

Inside the locker room, nobody was shocked. Safety Derwin James Jr. said Justin had told him “a long time ago he was going to do it.” Linebacker Daiyan Henley traced it back to Week 1, when Justin slid on the field against the Chiefs in Sao Paulo. “I knew she was the one,” Henley told Kay Adams. “I made a joke one day, and he was like, ‘Bro, I’m bending the knee.'”

Head coach Jim Harbaugh got the same read once Justin filled the team in. Asked for marriage advice for the couple, he offered: “Attack each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind together.”

Beer, 27, made a surprise appearance at training camp herself, caught on camera hugging her fiancé as he walked off at the end of a session.
