Lena Dunham Told a Room Full of NFL Players That Football Is “Just Straight Guys Reenacting Gay Porn” During Her Toast at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding
The joke landed in a room full of pro football players, from Jason Kelce to Cooper Kupp. Taylor Swift’s verdict on it? “Genius.”

Several NFL players in the crowd of 1,000 heard Lena Dunham deliver the line during her toast, among them Jason Kelce, Kareem Hunt, JuJu Smith-Schuster, George Kittle and Cooper Kupp, plus a row of coaches that included the Patriots’ Mike Vrabel.

The crack reportedly drew “gasps and laughs” at the Madison Square Garden reception. Swift wasn’t blushing, and according to the source she loved it.
One caveat on all of it: the account rests on a single unnamed Daily Mail insider. No named witnesses, no video, no on-record quotes. Commenters online are also flagging the line as a lift from comedian Robby Hoffman, who has stand-up bits playing with football, straight-guy masculinity and gay subtext in sports.

Dunham had reason to want the room on her side. Her new memoir, Famesick, thanks Swift in the acknowledgements as the friend who “picks up every desperate call at every desperate hour,” and the toast was the public version of that bond.
She also had reason for a long night. Her ex-boyfriend Jack Antonoff, Swift’s longtime collaborator, was in the same room for both the Thursday rehearsal dinner at MSG’s Infosys Theater and Friday’s wedding in the main arena. Antonoff brought his sister, designer Rachel Antonoff, as his rehearsal-dinner plus-one rather than his wife, actress Margaret Qualley. He and Dunham split in 2017 after five years together and have each since remarried.

The favor once ran the other way. Swift toasted Dunham and her husband Luis Felber at their 2021 London wedding, in what The Sun called “a really sweet speech.”
