Angelina Jolie Only Went Back to Acting Because It Was the Fastest Way to Make Money and Stay Near Her Kids After the Brad Pitt Divorce

Angelina Jolie had already quit acting before she split from Brad Pitt. She’d moved into directing and was planning to focus on her international humanitarian work, and then the divorce changed the math.

She told Variety that going back to acting was the only way to be home more, work in short stretches, and bring in real money. She took jobs that were short, close to home, or ones her kids could come along on.

Jolie also said her “fighting spirit” is finally back after years of feeling taken down, and credited her children, who are nearly all 18, for pushing her to travel and work again. She’s promoting “Couture,” in which she plays a horror director facing a breast cancer diagnosis in the middle of a divorce. It’s in theaters June 26.
