The ‘Christmas In Paris’ Epilogue Reveals A Major Plot Point For ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Movie

By

I think it’s pretty logical to assume the movie will take place in winter and around Christmas. Here is why.

I’m trying to figure out if the incredibly cute film photographs from the Christmas in Paris album in the end credits of the finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty give us any hints about the movie, which is now 100% confirmed.

They had to secretly go off and shoot this photograph. Or maybe the background was made in post-production so the photograph could be taken on a regular red carpet. Credit: The Summer I Turned Pretty/Amazon Studios.

The first reason I’m speculating there might be a connection is because it was very obviously a huge PR stunt to announce the movie so quickly. Amazon Studios knew exactly what they were doing. So much so that, when they were doing PR for the new season, they had a photographer sneak off with Lola Tung and Chris Briney to take a photo with a big sign that said The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie, just so they could have a fresh photograph and really hammer in how real this is to us before we could even finish the finale episode.

Given how deliberate the PR was and how closely tied the news release was to the finale, the epilogue seems like the ideal place to hint at what’s to come, ever so subtly. Right?!

Okay, but also consider the economics. Amazon Studios hasn’t had a major hit with the female demographic in a long time. Daisy Jones & the Six did well, but it wasn’t a franchise.

This is the biggest cash driver Amazon Studios has had in a while and for a streaming network that’s been more or less centered on shows for older males (think Jack Ryan and Reacher), that’s saying something.

Sure, sure: but what does this have to do with an epilogue? Well, if you want to maximize profits on an already very successful franchise, what kind of movie do you make? YOU MAKE A CHRISTMAS MOVIE—because holiday films are evergreen, they drive repeat viewing every year, and they practically guarantee financial success.

And given Belly has already “turned pretty” way too many times, it makes sense to shift the tone to winter. And maybe, just maybe, they were telling us: we’re going to have a Paris wedding in winter for this very, very anticipated film.

Even if all of this wild speculation is wrong, I still think Paris is locked in as the setting, and at least that part we can count on. Why? Fans in Paris have already shared TikToks of scenes being filmed there in real time. Some of these clips never made it into any episodes we’ve seen so far. One showed Conrad down on one knee, which looked a lot like a proposal, while another captured Jeremiah in Paris. To me, that signals the movie has already been shooting and Paris will definitely play a central role; even if it’s not Paris in Christmas.

Also, even from a pure economic standpoint, they probably shot scenes for the movie this season while they were already on location, right?

Yep, so get ready for Conrad and Belly’s perfect love to unfold with a marriage ceremony in France. For further insights about The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, you can also explore themes from the book.
