Sometimes, when you are in a healthy, loving relationship, you will find that giving each other cute pet names is almost inevitable. In fact, you may even reach a point in the relationship where calling your boyfriend by his real name just feels…awkward. If you are curious about what people nickname their partner or you want to start incorporating these nicknames into your everyday life vocabulary, keep reading! Here is our list of cute nicknames you can call your boyfriend or husband or even your hookup buddy.

Whether you are a fan of using pet names for your partner, sometimes a cute or funny pet name just comes out naturally. It shows that you care for them just a little more to use a funny, romantic, or cutesy name.

Nicknames are almost terms of endearment. Using sweet or funny pet names with your partner other than “baby” or “babe” or “Prince Charming” shows they are someone special. It shows that your love is something special.

You may notice that a lot of these nicknames are related to food and sweets or about appearances. There’s something so precious about being called something complimentary or that is sweet or delicious. I mean, who doesn’t want to be praised for their good looks or told they’re sweet?

How To Give Your Guy A Pet Name You’ll Both Love

Okay, so maybe these generic nicknames like “stud muffin,” “babe,” “baby,” or “bubba” aren’t your thing. How can you come up with something unique, a name that you can call him that is specific to him? Here are some ideas that you might like:

Use his name.

Sometimes we create a variation of our pet’s name, and we can do the same for boyfriends! For example, my dog’s name is Kona. We call her “Kona Bologna” (pronounced the same) which then leads to “balogna” (pronounced “baloney”).

So if your boyfriend’s name is Brett, call him B. If your boyfriend’s name is Charlie, call him Char. If your boyfriend’s name is Douglas or Christopher, call him Dougie or Chrissy Poo. Or, use whatever speaks to you.

Use a different language.

If you or your boyfriend speaks another language besides English, consider using that to your advantage. Here are some examples:

Mon Amour – “my love,” French

Vishenka – “cherry,” Russian

Chang Noi – “little elephant,” Thai

Dropje – “candy,” Brazilian

Use inside jokes.

Being in a relationship means the two of you have some sort of culture that is entirely your own. No one outside your relationship will understand cutesy moments that happened between the two of you, and there’s something special about that kind of exclusivity.

For example, let’s say the two of you took a trip to the Zoo and shared a funny moment with the monkeys and now you call him Monkey. Or maybe it’s a running joke in your relationship how much you love his big eyes and can’t help but say “hey brown eyes” every time you see him.

What do you call your boyfriend? Have you used any of these names before?
