6 Brutally Honest Reasons You Might Want To Postpone Your 2020 Wedding
If you’re getting married later in the year, it’s hard to determine whether you should postpone your wedding or keep your fingers crossed. There’s no telling what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone a few weeks or months from now. But considering life isn’t going to return to normal anytime soon, here are some signs you should probably consider postponing your wedding until next year:
1. If you want the whole shebang — the bridal shower, the bachelorette party, the rehearsal dinner. Maybe your venue will allow you to have your wedding by the time your date rolls around. But are you going to have the chance to have a bridal shower a month before and a bachelorette party two months before? It’s not greedy to want the whole bridal experience. This is your only wedding. You shouldn’t settle for less than you’ve dreamed about since you were a little girl.
2. If you don’t want masks in the photographs you’re paying thousands of dollars to own. Even if large gatherings are allowed by the time your wedding date arrives, you’re probably going to need to stay cautious. That means guests could be wearing masks in all your photographs. There are even bridal masks being made — and you probably don’t want to walk down the aisle in one.
3. If you want everyone to hug and kiss and dance and drink to the music. If you planned a big wedding, you probably want all the bells and whistles that come along with one. You want to dance. You want to drink. You want to have fun — and you want your loved ones to feel the same. You don’t want them shying away from you (or the dance floor) because they’re scared to get too close to anyone. It could ruin the magic.
4. If you want your relatives out of town to watch you say your vows. If your family lives in another state, or another country, there’s a chance they aren’t going to feel comfortable getting on a plane anytime soon. You could always livestream your wedding, but if you want certain special people there in person and they live far away (or are in high-risk groups), it might be best to hold off on your wedding for now. Besides, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
5. If you don’t want all the weekend dates to be gone. The 2021 wedding scene is going to be chaotic. There are already a lot of brides moving their date, and there are brides who originally planned on getting married that year before all of this happened. If you wait until the last second to postpone your wedding, other brides are going to snatch up weekend dates. You might be stuck holding your wedding in the middle of the week — and that is not what you paid for.
6. If you are getting overwhelmed by the uncertainty. You don’t want to look back on the beautiful wedding you put so much time and effort into, and only remember the virus. You don’t want your guests to be talking about your party for years to come for the wrong reasons. You’re still going to be madly in love next year, so waiting might be worth it in the end. That way, you can celebrate with the normal amount of stress.
