The Truth Is I Don’t Miss You Anymore
I hope you don’t miss me because I don’t miss you. I hope you’re not thinking of me because I never think of you. And I hope you’re not waiting for me because I’m never coming back.
Time helped me forget all about you. I don’t miss your voice or the way you said my name. I don’t miss your touch or how tight you hugged me. I don’t miss your smell or your clothes. I don’t miss your smile or your sense of humor. I don’t miss your energy or how I felt when you were around. I don’t miss your cooking or even your silly dancing. It’s been a long time since I have seen you. It’s been a long time since I have spoken to you. It’s been a long time since I have thought about you. Darling, it’s been a long time since my heart ached to the loss of you.
I don’t miss your brilliance. I don’t miss your beauty. I don’t miss you.
Distance eventually showed me what’s in front of me than the what I left behind. I stopped wishing I was going out and about with you, I started making time for those around me. I stopped wishing I was spending time with you, I started spending time with my family. I stopped wishing you were by my side, I showed-up for myself. And so, my mind forgot your number. My arms forgot the warmth of your body. My eyes forgot your appearance.
And my heart forgot the way back to your heart.
I really don’t miss us. I don’t miss the hope, the dream, the vision we shared. I don’t miss the connection we built. I don’t miss the love we had. I don’t miss the love we had. I don’t miss the stories or memories we’ve been through because I honestly forgot them. I don’t miss who I was when I was with you because I have changed. I don’t miss life with you in it, because life after you feels exactly like life before you, just as if nothing has changed. Like, when Let Her Go comes on the radio, I don’t change the station because it doesn’t make me cry anymore. When my friends ask me about you, I answer naturally because I don’t cringe on the inside anymore. When people bring you up, I don’t get nervous because I am not miserable about you anymore.
Believe me when I say that I don’t wish you were here.
Believe me when I say that I don’t wish things turned out differently. Believe me when I say that I have moved on. Believe me when I say that I let go of the guilt, the shame, and the hurt. And believe it when you hear that I am doing okay because I have never been better. Believe it when you see me happy because I truly am happy. Believe it because the truth is I don’t miss you anymore, I’m in a good place now.
