I know you’re struggling right now. I know that your heart is racing a million miles a minute. I know that you can’t calm your mind down. You’re scared because the things that used to make you happy don’t anymore. People you thought you could never live without are long gone. Your life is changing and you don’t know how to respond. You’re doubting yourself with every decision. You’re not the same person you used to be but I promise you it’s all going to work out just fine.

You’re going to start to find out which parts of you are truly yours and which parts belong to other people. You’re going to find new passions. You’re going to fall in love with new ideas. You’re going to meet people that take your breath away and leave you in awe. You’re going to find yourself in new places and situations that change who you are. You’re going to discover parts of yourself that surprise you, maybe even scare you.

You’ll fall in love with the little things that you never even gave a second thought to before. You’ll come to discover that life is only as difficult as you make it and you’re not as in control as you think you are. You’ll find what makes you happy and you’ll hold it close to your heart. You’ll hear people criticize you, but you’ll learn to just let that be background noise. You’ve become someone that is in this for you and only you. You are starting to believe in yourself more and more. You are widely capable and you realize that you can create something magnificent with your life. You’ll come to love your new life more than you miss the old one.

It’s a scary realization when the life you planned isn’t the life that is waiting for you, but at the end of all this you’ll learn that you don’t need all the answers. All you need is the courage to follow your heart and the humility to see your dreams to the end.

So the next time those doubts creep into your head, remember that you’re not breaking down but rather breaking through. It takes courage and a tremendous amount of self-awareness to realize and admit that you are on the wrong path. Don’t be afraid of starting over because I promise at the end of it all, you’ll be more yourself than ever.
