Love and appreciation are not things that are expressed or even noticed on a regular basis. People are too busy focusing on the terrible shit in the world that no one takes a second to notice even the small things that are great. We’ve become so used to bitching and complaining that it’s almost all we ever do anymore. It’s always negative. We are always focusing in on the ugly things, that we don’t take enough time to appreciate the beautiful things we have to offer. Those beautiful things come in different packaging, but they’re what set each of us apart from one another.

We allow other people’s views of ourselves and other people to mask what we truly think. We allow a person’s negative comment about someone to be the thing that we carry with us on a daily basis.

It’s time to stop that bullshit.

Start appreciating EVERYTHING about yourself and encourage others to do the same. I’m weird, slightly eccentric, loud, my laugh is what some would call annoying, I drink a little too much, and I eat Taco Bell almost every single day. I make no apologies for it. I love who I am in every which way. I’m weird? So what. My laugh is annoying? So what. Taco Bell is not an acceptable meal for lunch and dinner? SO WHAT.

We all know our flaws, but that’s the problem. Instead of viewing them as a special part of us, we focus on them as FLAWS. They’re not flaws at all.

I get a little pushy when I drink? So what. I’m a pusher. I know what I want and I go for it. I’m a savage? So what. I consider that a redeeming quality. I don’t jump in wholeheartedly unless I care about someone. So what. That guard is there for a reason. I obsess over small things? So what. Who doesn’t?

I deal with all of my imperfections and consider them unique aspects of what make me, ME. So should you. You should view your somewhat obnoxious laugh as special and therefore making it special to someone else. We spend so much time trying to hide our less than perfect quirks instead of embracing them, that we lose who we are. How are you supposed to be you and be with someone who appreciates and loves everything about you if you’re not being true to yourself.

Be yourself and make no apologies for it. Someone out there loves that laugh, girl. EMBRACE IT! Thought Catalog Logo Mark
