It’s OK To Ask For What You Need When It Comes To Love
It’s ok to say that I want to pick you, to choose you every day, to make a promise that it’s just you and me in this relationship.
Just because you want strings, doesn’t make you a puppet.
Just because you want strings, doesn’t mean that you’re not free, or that you’re not a feminist, or that you’re not an independent woman.
It’s ok to want a relationship with strings.
Now say that with me, “it’s ok to want a relationship with strings.”
Now look in the mirror, and say it like this – “it’s ok that I want a relationship with strings.”
Now say it again as much as you need to, say it until you start to believe it so fully that you don’t need to say it – you just know it.
Strings mean that you want to wake up the next morning with the one you love beside you. Strings mean that you don’t want to go to bed and hear the buzz of a textphone and wonder if it’s someone else they’re sleeping with. Strings mean that you want to know where you stand with the other person – it means that you want to know that you have support, and a connection, and commitment.
Strings mean that you want commitment.
And I know it might not be the cool thing to say – but it’s ok that you want commitment. It’s ok that you want to tell another soul that you want to spend your life with them. It’s ok to say that I want to pick you, to choose you every day, to make a promise that it’s just you and me in this relationship.
It’s ok that you want the strings.
It’s ok that you want the strings that tie another person to the rest of the life that they have lived, that you want to know about the family that they love (or hate), and you want to learn how to love (hopefully not hate), them too. It’s ok that you want to know the strings that tie them to broken hearts, and broken promises, and dreams that are still in thoughts and pictures. It’s ok that you want to know the strings that tie them to the promise of tomorrow – and that you want to step into tomorrow with them.
It’s ok that you want the strings.
It’s ok to ask for the strings.
It’s ok to walk away if someone doesn’t want the strings, either.
It’s ok to ask for what you need in a relationship – strings or not.
