Hello, I Must Be Going

The main character has recently (unwillingly) divorced her husband and has to go back and live with her parents for a while. Well, that’s enough to make you cringe, right? She is put in a position where she has no other choice than to find a passion for life again and figure out how to start all over. It’s about reaching rock bottom and still finding the strength to get back up again.

Inside Llewyn Davis

The story is loosely based on Dave Van Ronk’s life. He was an important figure in the revival of New York City’s folk music scene in the 1960s and is known to have paved the way for musicians like Bob Dylan. The character of Llewyn Davis is that of a struggling artist, a folk singer, who finds himself homeless during the harsh New York winter. The movie is at times heartbreaking and you will most likely find yourself desperately rooting for the guy. However, he is relentless in pursuing his dream and it proves as a testament that you should keep going in spite of whatever life throws at you.

Like Sunday, Like Rain

Another film about a struggling musician but this one is not quite as depressing. A 23-year-old musician finds herself in a babysitting gig which is completely new to her. Even though she thinks she will get in, get out, and earn some quick cash, she ends up building one of the most meaningful relationships in her life so far.

Life Partners

This movie shows what can happen when a relationship between two best friends has to be put on hold for another completely separate relationship. It is funny and sad at the same time and you will probably just wish for everyone to get along by the end.

Wild

Based on a best selling memoir, it tells the story of a woman who went to hell and back and found herself during the journey. Her experience will teach you that no matter how hard life can kick you, you will always find within you the will to come back for more. No matter the loss, the grief, the bad luck; we all have that power inside of us, the power to fight. Just as the main character in this movie does, we all need some time away from everything and everyone in order to truly understand what we need to do to find our happiness.

The Skeleton Twins

If you are a Saturday Night Live fan, you’ll enjoy this one even more. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig share some amazing chemistry as brother and sister on screen. They are reunited after many years by some dark events that happen to them on the exact same day and they are forced to face whatever split them up in the first place. If you’re an only child, it will leave you longing for a sibling. If you already have brothers or sisters, you’ll be dialing their number before the credits roll in. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
