You Can Do Everything Right, And Still Lose
You can offer help, be there for someone, and do everything to let them know they aren’t alone, and their depression still may win.
The scary thing about life is that sometimes you can do everything right, and still fail.
You can prepare yourself for an exam and still fail.
You can show up to every practice and train harder than your competition, and still not win.
You can offer help, be there for someone, and do everything to let them know they aren’t alone, and their depression still may win.
You can do everything right, and still lose.
This is important to remember, especially as we talk so much about being there for someone and helping our loved ones who suffer from depression.
You could do everything right, but it still may not work out. There’s always a chance it won’t be enough, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.
Sometimes the signs aren’t there at all for you to do anything, sometimes you never saw this coming, and that’s okay too. As someone with depression, I went years without anyone knowing I tried to kill myself. In fact, my blog is the only reason anyone knows.
Someone battling mental illness isn’t always the traditional “loner” kid, in fact, many times it’s not.
One of my friends was one of the most popular kids in our school, he was loved my teachers and students alike. He cared about everyone in his life and was someone we could count on for a good laugh or a positive perspective on a negative situation.
Little did we know, that friend of ours was battling with demons darker than we could’ve ever imagined. He couldn’t fight them off any longer, and we lost him.
No one did anything wrong, but it felt like we failed him.
The unfortunate, scary truth about life is sometimes we can do everything right, but still fail.
Don’t stop caring, don’t stop living, and don’t stop trying to make a difference. The worst thing you can do is give up on the good fight.
