Elon Musk’s Feed Has Become a Running Commentary on White Birth Rates, and Former Supporters Are Quietly Walking Away

By

On July 31, Musk told his more than 240 million followers that the West’s birth rate is really two numbers hiding behind one: a large group having half as many kids as needed, and a small group having double. He called it “demographics is destiny.” It was one of hundreds of posts he’s made tying fertility, immigration, and race into a single warning.

Musk framed Western birth rates as a “blended number” masking two populations, roughly 90% having children at half the replacement rate and 10% at double, and declared “demographics is destiny.” He posted it July 31 while quoting a 2010 Mark Steyn clip that used ethnic Europeans versus Muslim immigrants as its example groups.

Hours later he added that “Nigeria alone had 4 million more births than the entire EU last year,” a figure that tracks with UN estimates of roughly 7.5 million Nigerian births against about 3.5 million across the EU.

The two tweets are part of a pattern analysts have counted in the hundreds: a Washington Post review logged about 850 race-related posts in the seven months ending mid-April 2026, near-daily across most of that window. He’s warned that Europe “will not be Europe much longer” without higher domestic birth rates and large-scale remigration, and tied low fertility to civilizational collapse for years. Musk rejects the racism charge, pointing to his half-Indian partner Shivon Zilis, their children, and his stated wish for all people to prosper.

The volume has cost him anyway, in pockets rather than in bulk. Venture capitalist Vinod Khosla broke publicly in January 2026, accusing Musk of pursuing “WAGA” instead of MAGA and urging “all non-whites in @tesla, @SpaceX, @X” and “all decent whites” to quit and come work for his portfolio companies. A prominent Tesla fan account contrasted Rivian’s product focus with Musk’s attention to “the percentage of white people in New Zealand.” WIRED in March 2026 documented a wave of Tesla influencers leaving what one called “the cult,” citing the politics alongside repeated Full Self-Driving overpromises. His core base, especially on the right, has held.
