The comment came about 84 seconds into a Betches “Picture Day” interview. Blunt was sitting alongside her co-star Stanley Tucci, who is also her actual brother-in-law.

The host asked if she had any advice for women hating their jobs. Blunt muttered “Quit. No.” under her breath, caught herself, and said: “Just find something that you deeply want to do. Even if you’re earning no money, as long as you love it, you’ll be happy.”

The clip went viral.

“It’s soooooo easy for wealthy people to say this.”

“Me paying my rent with the love of my job.”

“Kinda sick of very rich people telling me I’ll be happy with no money.”

“You’ll be happy until your rent is due. Or until you’re hungry and want some food.”

Her father is a barrister. Her mother was an actress and teacher. Her uncle served as a member of Parliament.

She attended Ibstock Place and then Hurtwood House, both elite private schools. She made her West End debut at 18 in a play with Judi Dench. The Devil Wears Prada cast her as Emily Charlton at 23.In the original, Emily Charlton was the senior assistant. She had already been initiated into the prestige hierarchy and defended it on Miranda Priestly’s behalf.

The “I love my job” line she repeats through gritted teeth was partially improvised by Blunt. In the sequel, her character is a design executive at a rival fashion house.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is out now.
