6 Signs That You Should Make The Change You’ve Been Thinking About

If you continue living your life the same exact way for another few months, years, or even decades, would you have regrets?

1. You can’t stop thinking about it. If there’s something you can’t stop thinking about — whether it’s asking someone out, dying your hair a new color, switching career paths, or moving to a new town — there’s a reason it’s been on your mind. It’s probably because that’s what you really want to do. It’s probably because that’s what your heart truly desires. However, just make sure it’s something that you want and not an idea that your parent or partner or society put in your head. Make sure you’re not considering the change out of peer pressure.

2. You can list out more pros than cons. Ask yourself whether the potential rewards outweigh the risks. What are the bad things that could happen if you made this change? What would you lose? What struggles would you face? But more importantly, what would you gain? What would you discover about yourself and the world around you? If you feel like the rewards outweigh the risks, then you should probably go with your gut and make the change.

3. You would regret not making a change. Ask yourself whether you could live with yourself if you let this opportunity pass you by. If you continue living your life the same exact way for another few months, years, or even decades, would you have regrets? Would you wish you had done things differently? Would you be disappointed in yourself? You have the power to change your life. If you want to take action, then give yourself permission to do so. No one is stopping you except for yourself.

4. You’re only holding yourself back because of silly fears. Fear of what others will say about you. Fear of failing. Fear of the unknown. If you desperately want to make this change, you shouldn’t allow your doubts to hold you back. You should listen to your heart. You should push aside your what ifs and make a change. Of course, practical fears are a bit different. If you’re worried you’re going to get physically hurt or won’t have enough money to pay the bills after a change, you should make sure you have a solid plan ahead of time. Make sure you aren’t putting yourself in an even worse position.

5. You admire others who have done the same. If you admire people who have done this thing that you’ve been thinking about, or are jealous of those people, then you probably want to be one of those people. They’ve proven what you want is possible, so why not try it yourself? Why not see what happens if you act out of bravery instead of playing it so safe?

6. You’ve thought the change through for a while. You don’t want to make a huge decision on a whim without thinking through the consequences. However, if you’ve been considering making this change for a while and you still have your heart set on it, then you should take the leap. Take the risk. Take a chance on yourself. You’re not going to be happy until you do. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
