I Can’t Stop Writing Poetry

because there's ink in my veins waiting to be spilled

When I was younger
I drew on my skin
reminders
love notes
crescent moon tattoos

teachers often warned me
said I’d get blood poisoning
but I was naive
and loved the way it looked
so I paid no attention

my hands
were canvases
paper didn’t fulfill me
and maybe that’s why
I can’t stop writing poetry

because there’s ink in my veins
waiting to be spilled
and when my heart
feels too much
I empty it with words. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
