Everything In Your Life Begins And Ends With You (So Make It Count)

Self-discovery does not have a destination. Self-discovery it’s a journey. It is a scary and spectacular journey.

“There’s a hope that’s waiting for you in the dark. You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are, and you don’t have to change a thing the world can change its heart.” –Alessia Cara

Let me be honest for a hot second. Society sucks. It really does. Society has taught us to believe that we have to act and look a certain way to be accepted. “How to lose 10 pounds in a week” is plastered on every cover of every magazine. If you’re on your phone, which I imagine you are, leave this article and cruise through Instagram. You will see nothing less than gym pictures or the picture perfect love story of a “happy couple”.

We assume that everyone is doing better than us, so we begin the process of self-loathing, which ultimately leads us to a destination of envy. It is unhealthy and we lose sight of focusing on becoming the best versions of ourselves for solely ourselves.

Take in this next phrase as real advice..

It is okay to be yourself.

I wrote it, you read it; so for your own sanity, believe it.

It is perfectly normal to cry during sappy movies.

It is okay to be shy,
It is okay to be eccentric,
It is okay to be happy,
It is okay to be loud,
It is okay to be stubborn,
It is okay to be determined
It is okay to be whatever it is you want to be.

Stop wearing the mask, because what you’re doing is suppressing what you’re feeling and basically damaging your soul. Keep connected to your support system. The people who love and accept you for everything you are even at your absolute worst.

Do not waste a second of your time with someone who wants to shift your being, and also don’t chase people. Instead of that chase your development, chase your passions, and chase your dreams. Don’t sit around trying to convince someone that you deserve to be in his or her world, just build your own.

Self-discovery does not have a destination. Self-discovery it’s a journey. It is a scary and spectacular journey.

It can be difficult to have to sift through each part of your mind and heart, but I did this by writing. Not only does this give you an excuse to go on a hunt for find a pretty new journal, but it gives you the opportunity to sit alone and express raw emotions. No boundaries and no rules. Write down your wants and needs. Write about the boy who broke your heart or the boy whose heart you broke. Write the positives and the negatives. JUST WRITE. You will cry and at times you will feel crazy, but you will begin to fall madly in love with yourself. Every single word that you wrote down is what makes you the amazing masterpiece that you are now.

And if you forgot to tell yourself today that you’re beautiful… You are so beautiful.

Go find yourself. Become complacent with every feeling and emotion that you have. Do not allow anyone to tell you that you are not good enough. You deserve the entire world and nothing less. Come to terms with the fact that in the end it is your opinion that matters most, and remember everything your life begins and ends with you.

You can do this. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
