10 Modern Songs That’ll Colorify Your Day
We all know colours aren't just visual components of a rainbow or animate aspects we see in our everyday lives.
1. Yellow – Coldplay

Here, Coldplay indicates everything about a girl and what she interacts with – turns yellow. Like “the stars and how they shine for you and everything you do. Yeah, they were all yellow.” Or “I swam across, I jumped across for you, oh what a thing to do. Because you were all yellow.” In this song, the colour yellow seems to represent happiness and positive energy. He sees this woman as a ray of (yellow) light who shines over his life, where there may be (black) darkness – which leads us to our next title…
2. Black & Yellow – Wiz Khalifa

At first, I wasn’t sure if there was any “deep meaning” to this song. But with lyrics directly attaching the colours; ie. “Black stripe, yellow paint; I hear they scared of it, but them bros ain’t”, or even more apparent – “Reppin my town when you see me, you know what it is” and the ever-so-humble “Everything I do, I do it big,” it becomes clear Wiz gains the authority to create new traditional connotations for the colours “black and yellow” and make it all about – him. Profound indeed…
3. Black Black Heart – David Usher

Our next contender mirrors the conventional meaning of this colour more accurately. With lyrics like “Something ugly this way comes” and “I unfurl my flag, my nation helpless,” it’s obvious the colour black here represents the self-destructive depression one person is experiencing – looking on the outside in this chaotic world we live in.
4. Black or White – Michael Jackson

While he may have referred to “black or white” in the literal sense, one of the most iconic performers of our time said it best: “It don’t matter if you’re black or white.” He also sang: “Yes we’re one and the same” and “I’m not going to spend my life being a colour.” Showcasing the issue of racism in his lyrics and an array of famous “black and white” faces in the accompanying video, Michael Jackson got his point across beautifully. Our actual colours may be different, but we all share the same colour of blood that makes us all one colour: human.
5. White Horse – Taylor Swift

Singing her love story as per usual, Taylor Swift embodies the symbolism of the colour “white” in her song “White Horse”. “White” is intended to symbolize an immaculate, utopian yet practically fictitious thing. Love, but in this case, the romanticized idea of love and chivalry. Or what we would consider love is actually “perfect love.” Taylor cries: “I’m not a princess, this ain’t a fairy tale, I’m not the one you’ll sweep off her feet, Lead her up the stairwell. Now it’s too late for you and your white horse to come around.” Here, Taylor shows us she learned the hard way that the ‘white” (perfection) in love doesn’t exist.
6. Blue – Eiffel 65

It may sound like a silly little dance song that repeats the word “blue” wayyyy too often, but if you listen carefully, Eiffel 65 actually connects how everything and everyone is “blue”. Allow me to demonstrate…”Yo listen up here’s a story, About a little guy that lives in a blue world, And all day and all night and everything he sees, Is just blue like him inside and outside…And everything is blue for him and himself, And everybody around, ’cause he ain’t got nobody to listen to.” If those words aren’t obvious enough, listen to these: “Blue are the words I say and what I think. Blue are the feelings that live inside me.” Basically, Eiffel is projecting how he feels on the inside onto how he perceives the outside world. Because he feels “blue” (aka sad), everything and everyone surrounding him look negative as well. So, moral of the song: Don’t be blue, or everyone and everything around you will turn blue too. Look on the bright side, and turn your blue into something positive like Madonna does…
7. True Blue – Madonna

For Madonna, the colour “blue” doesn’t represent sadness but rather sincerity – finding the right person, the “true blue” to spend the rest of her life with. Basically, everything is summarized in the first verse and chorus: “I’ve had other guys, I’ve looked into their eyes. But I never knew love before, ‘Til you walked through my door…True love, true blue baby I love you.”
8. Purple Pills – D12 (feat. Eminem)
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uuq6HgKgEFQ&w=584&h=390%5D
With a whole bunch of lyrics I’m not at liberty to repeat except “But nothing compares To these blue and yellow purple pills,” it’s clear that the colour “purple” here doesn’t serve any other purpose except the physical one…
9. Gold Digger – Kanye West (feat. Jamie Foxx)
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vwNcNOTVzY&w=584&h=390%5D
And another song I can’t repeat the lyrics to…The colour “gold” here represents the power of moola, specifically for all the young ladies whose affections can be bought. “She take my money when I’m in need, Yeah she’s a trifling friend indeed, Oh she’s a gold digger way over town, That digs on me.” Yes Kanye, she’s a gold digger who digs…
10. Lady In Red – Chris De Burgh
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_FdcBiV-lQ&w=584&h=390%5D
If you’re not familiar with the artist, the song title should ring a bell. Basically, he’s talking about a lady dressed in red. But here, “red” speaks for way more than just her dress colour. Red stands for the power of love, sex, unadulterated passion…”I’ve never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance, They’re looking for a little romance, given half a chance.” OR “And I have never had such a feeling, Such a feeling of complete and utter love, as I do tonight; I never will forget the way you look tonight. The lady in red…”
