What Does It Mean To Be Human?
I am human, but what is my humanity and what does it mean to be human?
It’s more than reproduction and the daily grind of 9-5. It’s more than living on planet earth and being able to communicate to one another, all while feeling emotions.
Is it a scientific definition? A classification? Is it nature vs nurture, or both? What about who I decide to be and how I decide to grow and change into a higher version of myself?
It’s a combination of things, you see. We’re so used to labels. The labels which actually divide us; race, class, and religion. I don’t want to label myself, I just want to find meaning in who it is that I am. So, what does it mean?
It’s not what we’re capable of on the negative end of the spectrum, but rather what we’re aspiring to.
For me, what it means to be human is to leave people better than I found them. This could be something as simple as listening to a friend vent or holding the door for a passerby.
Being human means I’m a visionary. I keep things in front of me that I’m believing so I will subconsciously move towards them, as I set goals to reach consciously.
It means allowing love to be my state of being. Something that isn’t dependent on others or materialistic things.
My experiences, even the gut-wrenching ones, they allow me to feel. They allow me to learn and do better. Being human means if we so choose, we will learn. We will grow on this journey. We will settle into a higher version of ourselves and our individual purpose.
I am human and my humanity is love; as all good things stem from it.
Patience. Kindness. Empathy. Respect. Understanding. Strength. Passion. Trust. Laughter. Openness.
