Bruno Richard Hauptmann was convicted for kidnapping and murdering the 20-month-old son of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh in 1932. After kidnapping the infant and demanding a ransom of $50,000 (which was delivered) the body of the baby was found in the woods 2 months after the kidnapping. Some have theorized the infant’s death was accidental. After a trial for what was dubbed “The Crime of the Century”, several appeals, and even two stays of execution while the case was reviewed, Hauptmann was executed by the electric chair at the New Jersey State Prison in 1936. In his final words he still maintained his innocence.

His last meal consisted of celery, olives, chicken, french fries, buttered peas, cherries, and a slice of cake.
