You’ve Been Conditioned To Wait, But You Must Go
But we’re often told to wait we’re taught to live like hunters – be patient, and quiet, and still and that is exactly the problem.
By Tammy Danan
People will tell you to wait
more than they will tell you to go
Go out there and figure out
shit along the way
Go build a tower of hearts out
of broken teeth
Go let the universe take you in
like how the shore welcomes
every wave and all the unsaid words
in beer bottles that refused to break.
But we’re often told to wait
we’re taught to live like hunters –
be patient, and quiet, and still
and that is exactly the problem.
We’ve mastered the art of waiting
for the sign
for the right time
that we forgot we could swim to
the belly of the ocean and sail
the ship that’s lying in hopeful
stillness
searching for us
for so long.
