Breakups are always difficult. Period.

When I explain to people why I left that relationship, they tell me that I made the right choice. 

If you had actually wanted me, you would have actually tried.

I can’t even begin to think of the possibility of finding someone else.

In each moment that you think that you might be okay again and have recovered from your loss, you run the terrifying risk of relapse.

Your empathy is beautiful and precious, and you shouldn’t suffocate it because you are scared to be disappointed and hurt again.

It is not your fault that your partner did not treat you well, that they put you down and upset you.

No one person should be your “everything.” No one. Ever. Period.

I respected you so much for making decisions and following them, for never being afraid to step into something unknown.

The sun has shifted now, and the dappled shadows of the leaves reach my knees. 

A moment of silence stretches between us and then his eyes slowly rise.

This year, I have declared to myself that I am not judged on the success of one relationship or another, but on the way I love.
