Sadie Sink Wore a Backless Prada Dress to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day Premiere and Her Secret Role Looks More Like Jean Grey by the Day
“Jean. I like Jean. She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness.” — Steve Lacy

Sadie Sink was cast in March 2025 and Marvel has guarded her role ever since.
Steve Lacy, 28, was at the Los Angeles premiere on Monday night because his song “oh yeah?” is on the film’s soundtrack. Asked which character he was most excited to see, he said, “You know what, Jean. I like Jean. She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness.”

Sink walked the blue carpet in a custom Prada gown in silky silver satin that skimmed her figure into a floor-length silhouette, with delicate embellished seams running vertically down the dress. The front plunged into an ultra-deep V that dropped well below the bust, and the back dipped nearly to the waist.

She was announced for the film in March 2025, and her role has been the biggest guessing game of the press run since. Marvel has refused to confirm anything, Sink herself has joked about the wilder fan theories, and the studio has never publicly named the film’s villain. The dominant theory has always been that she’s playing Jean Grey, the X-Men character, and a rumor this week from scooper Cryptic HD Quality added that British actor Olivia Booth-Ford would appear as Jean’s sister Sarah Grey, a detail that only makes sense if Jean is in the movie at all.

Lacy’s answer doesn’t strictly confirm Sink is Jean, only that Jean is in the movie. But it fills in the two blanks Marvel has guarded hardest: the character and that she’s the villain.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens July 29 in the UK and July 31 in the US.
