An Open Letter To The Sad Souls

Darling, let yourself seek comfort in your sadness, just for now.

You are allowed to take solace in your sadness. There is nothing wrong with allowing it to linger over your head for a period of time. You are not a burden. You are not in need of fixing. There are times in this world when positivity also becomes toxic.

Darling, let yourself seek comfort in your sadness, just for now.

It doesn’t have to be forever. It shouldn’t be forever. But don’t let them tell you to be stronger. Don’t let them make you feel unwanted a moment longer.

Being sad doesn’t always mean you need healing.

Sometimes, being sad is a way to deal with all your feelings.

Sadness can be the minute-long hug from your friend you haven’t seen in years. Sadness can be the tissues which wipe all your tears. Sadness, for you, may be comforting and there is nothing wrong with that. As long as you know there will be brighter days ahead, you are going to be okay. And even if you’re not sure there will be, you will see that day.

For now, don’t be angry at yourself for feeling down. For now, be proud of yourself for all that you are. You are allowed to feel sad. You are allowed to feel hurt. And although you might be feeling a long way from home, it is perfectly okay if you need time to cry alone – to sit and stare at the stars in awe, to lay on your bed and witness the sheer power of a thunderstorm. To turn off your phone. To cuddle under the blankets and watch hours of your favorite TV show.

Please, reach out to someone if this sadness has been lingering. But if you’re just a little bit sad, for now, there is nothing wrong with sadness if it’s temporary.
