5 Powerful Mindset Shifts For A More Fulfilling Life

When we say, “Why is this happening TO me?” we victimize ourselves and give away our power.

Even if you’ve only scratched the surface of the personal development world, I’m sure you’ve heard about the importance of mindset.

“It’s all about your mindset.”

“The mind is everything. What you think, you become.”

“With the right mindset, you can do anything!”

But what the fuck is the “right” mindset?

This is a topic I could write about for days, but I don’t want you to spend any more time living with a limiting mindset (because it really is as important as everyone makes it sound), so I’m going to keep this short!

Here are 5 quick mindset shifts you can make to feel more fulfilled and prosperous without physically changing anything about your life!

1. This is happening to me vs. This is happening for me

A few years ago, a mentor had me change “to” to “for” when speaking of the things that happen in my life, and it completely changed the way I perceived situations that didn’t go my way.

When we say, “Why is this happening TO me?” we victimize ourselves and give away our power.

When we say, “Why is this happening FOR me?” we are able to cultivate gratitude for the situation (even if we don’t like it) and see the hidden opportunities and blessings within it.

If you catch yourself saying something that puts you in the victim role, stop, reframe your perception, and really think about how the event is serving you in a way you are currently unaware of.

As Dr. John Demartini says, “Everything is ON the way, not IN the way.”

2. I will do/be (x) once I have (y) vs. I need to do/be (x) so I can have (y)

We often fall into the habit of thinking we will change once we get the result we want, but that is completely backward. To get our desired result, we must first change our thoughts, words, and actions.

This shift in mindset can happen by rephrasing statements such as “I’ll work harder once I get a raise” to “I’ll work harder so I can get a raise.”

It’s your beliefs and actions that create your circumstances, not your circumstances that create your beliefs.

3. The world is scarce vs. The world is abundant

If you believe the world is scarce, lacking in resources and opportunities, a limited amount of those things will appear to you.

If you believe the world is abundant, with more than enough to go around, an overflowing amount of resources and opportunities will appear to you.

Objectively, the same amount of resources and opportunities are present, but how many you’re made aware of is determined by which mindset you are operating from.

To shift from a state of scarcity to that of abundance, focus on what you already have and how that is enough. If you wholeheartedly do that, you will begin to see more abundance in the world!

4. Everything is either negative or positive vs. Everything is balanced

We usually polarize situations, meaning we declare them negative or positive. In reality, everything is balanced. No situation is negative or positive until we attach our feelings and emotions to it.

I know there is a lot of chatter out there about “positive thinking,” but that can be just as detrimental as negative thinking. It makes you overly naive, ignorant to warning signs, and even attracts negative situations into your life in order to balance you out.

It is better to look for the benefits and drawbacks in each situation and operate from a mindset that understands everything is neutral.

For example, cheating in a relationship is typically perceived as negative. But if it makes you become a stronger person, find a more suitable partner, and release your fantasies, it’s actually pretty beneficial!

Any and all situations can be neutralized if you dig into them enough.

5. I can’t vs. How can I?

The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your questions.

Rather than seeing your skills as limited and fixed by affirming “I can’t,” frame it in a more thought-provoking way by asking “How can I?”

For example, rather than saying, “I can’t afford that,” ask, “How can I afford that”?

This will rewire your brain to see what is possible rather than what is lacking and in turn open you up to more opportunities!

Actually changing your mindset

Now that you see how simple these shifts can be, it’s time to take action!

First off, training your mind is not like riding a bike. If you stop working on improving it, you will quickly re-adopt the mindsets of mass consciousness. Commit to the lifelong journey of improving yourself and your mindset.

Then, start that journey by picking one mindset mentioned above and taking actions daily to rewire your thought patterns accordingly. These actions can be things like reading books on the topic, monitoring your thought patterns closely, saying daily affirmations that reinforce the mindset you would like to have, and surrounding yourself with people who actively operate from that mindset.

After you feel comfortable with one, start practicing another.

Trying to re-wire your mindset overnight is like trying to run a marathon tomorrow when you can’t even run a mile today. You will probably quit before you see the benefits.

Prioritize small, consistent actions over one-time, massive actions. Be patient and “trust the process.”

You will soon begin to notice all the ways you start approaching life differently and how these new mindsets serve you in a higher way! Thought Catalog Logo Mark
