Sometimes The Best Way To Deal With Your Pain Is To Look It Right In The Eye
You can’t just hide away from your pain. You just need to deal with it by letting yourself feel it.
We all have our ways of dealing with pain. Mine was faking that I was okay (just like they say, “Fake it till you make it”) and acting like my emotions didn’t exist. So, basically I wasn’t actually dealing with anything. I was just hoping that with time, my pain would just go away, but it turned out that things don’t work out that way.
Eventually, all these emotions I kept ignoring ended up bursting out in the most unexpected ways and hitting me with no previous warnings.
What I got to learn is that you can’t just hide away from your pain. You just need to deal with it by letting yourself feel it — and not just feel it, but also find a way to let it out. I am not saying that this will be an easy thing to do, because it won’t be.
But what you come to realize is that no matter how much you run away from your pain, it will keep haunting you till you find enough courage to stand right in front of it and face it. And when you do that, I hope you will find enough strength in you to be able to express your pain and let it out in any way that you feel the most.
Some people dance their pain out; others sing it. Some may draw it, and others may talk about it or write it down. Whichever way you choose to express it, it doesn’t matter as long as you get to let it out. Because your way of choosing how to deal with your pain is what defines you.
I think that this is the most beautiful part about pain (yes, there’s beauty in pain) — how you deal with it. How you choose to embrace your pain rather than fighting it or ignoring it, how you express it and create something out of it. That’s why It’s always actually in the darkest moments that people come up with their most glorious work.
Because these people were strong enough to stand in front of their pain and look it right in the eye to deal with it, rather than spend their lifetime running away from it. This is why we need to take this courageous step in our lives and let our pain in. One never quite knows what their pain might bring them, but at the end of the day, our pain is part of who we are, and it defines us in so many ways.
