You don’t open your heart to anyone anymore because the last time you did it got broken and you don’t want to go through the same kind of pain again, so you assume that everyone you meet is going to hurt you and you end it before it even begins.

The problem with putting people on a pedestal is that we sometimes take ourselves off it.

I still remember the first time we met and the way you made me smile. But I’ll never forget the nights you made me cry and the nights you walked away.

Seeing her made me realize that I didn’t even know you, because if this is who you fell in love with, then there was no way you’d fall in love with me.

What do you want to be remembered for? What’s the message you want to leave behind?

Our story is over, I know you never thought I’d ever utter these words because you were the dream that kept me going but I realized that dreams could easily become nightmares if we don’t wake up.

There is something liberating about handing the pen to God and letting him do his work.

I wish my life was a movie because reality is boring and running out of good scripts, running out of love, running out of hope, running out of wonder and running out of happy endings.

And I want someone to remind me how to be kind, to remind me that giving too much is not stupidity, that sharing your feelings is not weakness, and seeing the best in people is not naiveté. I want someone to tenderly and kindly give me their heart and lovingly guard mine.

Because here’s the truth about distance; it makes the heart grow fonder only if this heart was already entirely enthralled by you but it makes the heart grow colder if this heart was already unsure about you.

They teach you how to walk away when you discover that you deserve so much more than staring at a closed door.

When you’re not the one who settles, you ask a lot of questions with answers that might hurt you and you look for the truth; the truth that others evade, the truth that others shove aside to live a lie and the truth that others are afraid of. But you ask for it because you know it will set you free even if it’s ruthless. Because it takes courage not to settle, it takes strength and it takes resilience.

You can try to read between the lines but you’ll always find them blurry and murky because you interpret things according to how your mind operates and your mind is a maze.

But isn’t making decisions based on someone else a hell of its own? Isn’t living an inauthentic life the worst decision you could possibly make?

But who can understand that when the person who’s been holding on for so long falls apart, they don’t fall slowly, they don’t fall in pieces, instead; they crash down rapidly in one piece paralyzing every little part of them.

After a while you’ll know the difference between someone who holds your hand and someone who touches your soul. You’ll understand that words are not contracts and promises can be broken.

You will always be the dream I can’t say out loud because I’m afraid others might run after you, I don’t want anyone to know that you exist and I don’t want anyone to know why I can’t give up on you and I’m afraid if I tell them about you, they will fall in love with you too.

And finally date someone who doesn’t make you feel like dating them is a race you need to win, that you have to compete for their attention, that you have to work on your resume so they can accept you, that you have to learn more skills so they can approve of you and date someone who thinks you’re overqualified to even participate in these ridiculous games.
