In 2021, This Is What We Need To Leave Behind
Let’s think of 2020 as a huge dumpster that we get to leave all kinds of trash in. It’s been a draining year for almost everyone and it shifted our lives as we know it so while we’re all hoping for a better year, we can still take advantage of the final days of 2020. Let’s end it with a bang. Let’s leave behind all the baggage and start over unstained and polished.
Let’s leave behind the people who wronged us and made this year even more difficult. The ones who didn’t support us when we needed them to. The ones who added more bitterness and heaviness into our lives. The ones who weren’t so kind to us and the ones who used us. Let’s leave them behind in 2020. Let’s not take any of their residue or their words or their lies into 2021. Let’s not allow them stop us from enjoying new connections and getting to know new people who are actually worth our time and effort. Let’s cleanse our energy in 2021 by ridding ourselves of their toxicity.
Let’s leave behind all the anxiety about the future. Let’s leave behind the uncertainty and the chaos brought by 2020. Let’s leave the worries and the fears behind and let’s try to leave it up to God, up to the universe because if 2020 taught us one thing, it’s that we surely make plans and God laughs, we’re surely not as powerful and in control as we thought we were. We still have a long way ahead and in moments of despair and uncertainty, we can only pray, we can only lean on our faith when the future is unknown. In 2021, let’s learn to trust God more, trust his timing, his plans and his vision.
Let’s leave behind our attachment to the things that were wrong for us. Let’s leave behind our attachment to the things that let us go in the blink of an eye. Whether it was a job we thought we would never lose or a partner who promised to stay with us through thick and thin. 2020 was the year everyone did what’s best for them. They did what they had to do to survive and while we cannot blame them for what they’ve done to us, we must learn how to detach from the things we thought were secure. In 2021, let’s leave behind everything and everyone that gave up on us.
And last but not least, let’s leave behind our expectations. Let’s not label 2021 as ‘our year’ and let’s not label anyone as ‘the one,’ because rarely do people live up to this label and sometimes we don’t even live up to our own expectations either. In 2021, let’s not be too hard on ourselves. Let’s not put pressure on ourselves or deadlines or expiration dates. Let’s forgive ourselves for the mistakes we’ve done and for not knowing any better. Let’s give ourselves credit for surviving one of the craziest years in history. In 2021, let’s leave all the damage behind and start building a whole new foundation.
