I Have No Clue What Love Is, Do You?

I have no clue what love is because what we have is far more than that. It’s as natural as breathing, as essential as air and as strong as tornados.

Do you know what love is?

Love is when we have a fight and we end up crying in each other’s arms, promising to never let this happen again. And yet, here we are repeating it over and over again. Falling in love every time a little more than the last time.

Do you know what love is?

Love is when you tell me not to do the stupid things that I do and I agree. Yet, I go on doing what you like. I come back filled with tears and regrets, and you take me back without questions or the I-told-you-so look in your eyes. Only love.

Do you know what love is?

Love is when I write poems about you, about us and you ask me to read them to you. You ask me again, this time with a slower pace, and then again. I finally give up and read out each line with its description. So, you know the exact meaning that I’ve been trying to tell you. And when it’s done, you want me to read it once again and we both laugh.

Do you know what love is?

Love is when things keep you busy all day long and I stare at the phone for your call, but you don’t. You call me at around 2 in the morning and I get mad. You say I love you and all my arguments go in vain. I tell you how much I missed you the entire day and you tell me how sorry you are. And then we both sleep on the phone.

Do you know what love is?

Love is when you say no to the road trips your friends ask you to come. The reason, you say, is because they go with their girlfriends and I’m not there with you. I tell you you’re the luckiest amongst them all, to not have to carry drama around with you. You say you’d be luckier if I could go with you. I cry silently, cursing the distance and telling you you’re an asshole.

Do you know what love is?

Love is when I have beautiful dreams about us and you’re the first person I want to call, to tell everything that has happened, to tell me how much I’ve missed you, but I don’t. I know you’re busy right now, with other people. I wait for you to call me, but I don’t mention the dream. You have better adventures to discuss with me, things you won’t tell anybody else. I love him so much, I think and then you say it too.

Do you know what love is?

Love is when you the exact amount of craziness that I’m capable of and you warn me against it. When I make those mistakes, I don’t tell you. I fear that you might turn away and never look back, does not let me. You have your ways to know what’s wrong with me, you make me tell you everything. You believe me. You say, you know it’s not my fault. I feel terrible for misjudging you. You are going to be here. Always.

Do you know what love is?

I have no clue what love is because what we have is far more than that. It’s as natural as breathing, as essential as air and as strong as tornados. Love is when we break up a night before and end up calling each other in the morning to wake each other up with sweet kisses and I love yous. Love is when we know that nothing can tear us apart, when we know we’re the perfect match, the right peg in the right hole. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
