This Is The Brutal Truth About What It Means To Be Depressed

When you are depressed, reason becomes alien as you long to make sense of the nothingness. You long to feel, to breathe, to get rid of the pain. But you don’t feel, you can’t breathe, and you only feel pain.

When you are depressed, there’s a certain gloom that consumes you; it’s almost as though the sparkle, the glow of humanity that should coexist with the gloom, just fades into the abyss.

When you are depressed, you are like a delicate flower that craves to come into the light and untangle it’s petals but can’t because the petals have withered away.

When you are depressed, reason becomes alien as you long to make sense of the nothingness. You long to feel, to breathe, to get rid of the pain. But you don’t feel, you can’t breathe, and you only feel pain.

When you are depressed, you do not know what it’s like to love or want or enjoy. You do not know what it’s like to smile or laugh or be present. You do not know what it’s like to be yourself anymore.

When you are depressed, you see the world through a broken lens. You no longer see things clearly; everyone becomes a threat, including you. You become your own worst enemy – trapped in your thoughts, your very dark thoughts.

When you are depressed, you feel like you’re drowning. You were taught how to swim, but your efforts to stay afloat are pointless, because the water continues to swallow you whole.

When you are depressed, you crawl underneath the covers and hope that your eyes will never meet the morning light. You long to stay asleep, wrapped in the comfort and the warmth of your bed.

When you are depressed, your symptoms are not within your control – there is no off switch that you can use to bring the light back – there is only darkness.

You are depressed, but the world can never know; the world will never understand. So you hide the darkness with a bright smile, and you go on with your day. TC mark
