7 Little Things We Should Definitely Tell Our Dads More Often
Dad, have I told you lately that I am thankful for you? Maybe not.
I am thankful, from then until now, that I still have you with me. A lot of people, including you, do not have their fathers with them anymore. I thank God for keeping you healthy. And if it is not too much to ask, I hope He keeps you healthy twenty, thirty more years.
Dad, have I told you lately that I appreciate you? Maybe not.
I appreciate everything you have done for me from when I was young. I appreciate how you tried your best to be present in my life despite your busy schedule, and how you created great memories for me. I thank God He gave us those moments to remember forever. And if it is not too much to ask, I hope He allows us create more memories together twenty, thirty more years.
Dad, have I told you lately I admire you? Maybe not.
I admire you in so many ways. I’ve said it then, I’ll say it again, you’re the most intelligent person I know. I remember watching you work and I told myself then, I want to be like you. I thank God for giving you all those gifts that allowed you to inspire the people you’ve come across with in life. And if it is not too much to ask, I hope He lets you continue to inspire people twenty, thirty more years.
Dad, have I told you lately I love you? Maybe not.
I loved you from the day I was born and I will love you until the day I die. I know I sometimes fail to show you that I do, but I know you know. I thank God for your love, the love that never fails me. And if it is not too much to ask, I hope He allows me to continue to rely on that love twenty, thirty more years.
Dad, have I told you lately I am sorry? Maybe not.
I am sorry for the many times I disappointed you. I am sorry for the many times I neglected you. I am sorry for the times I forget to call, to ask how you are. I thank God for giving me a father who never gave up on me even when I become too difficult to even talk to. And if it is not too much to ask, I hope He gives me the chance to make it up to you twenty, thirty more years.
Dad, have I told you lately I wouldn’t be here if not for you? Maybe not.
I would forever be indebted to you for all the times you were there—from then until now. For making yourself available every time I turn to you for support. I thank God for giving you a heart that is sensitive to my needs and a heart that listens. And if it is not too much to ask, I hope He gives you the chance to still be there for your children twenty, thirty more years.
Dad, have I told you lately that I dread the day you won’t be here anymore? Maybe not.
I think I will be devastated. I think I will miss you every day. I think I will feel like a big part of me is missing. I thank God that that has not happened yet, but you are getting older and there is no stopping the clock. So please, if it is not too much to ask, when you pray to God tonight, can you bargain for more years? I know you will be a great addition to heaven, but I need twenty, thirty more years.
