These Are The Things We Left Unsaid

I don't like the way it feels inadequate, I don't want to fill your head with words I don't know if I'll ever find the courage to say again and again.

“Why do you never say goodbye anymore?”

‘Cause I don’t like the way that word makes your eyes water and redden,

I don’t like the way you force yourself to smile, just so I wouldn’t feel so alone, when I watch you get further and further when I’m the one who is leaving you all alone.

“Why do you never say you love me anymore?”

‘Cause I don’t think it is enough to express what I feel for you,

I don’t like the way it feels inadequate, I don’t want to fill your head with words I don’t know if I’ll ever find the courage to say again and again.

I don’t want to leave you behind, but I can’t take you with me, but you’re always right here when I close my eyes.

“Why don’t you ever send letters anymore?”

I don’t like the way you sit in the cold waiting for words that receive your smile but aren’t able to wipe away your tears, I don’t like the way they make you speechless and make my absence more profound in your life as years fly by,

I wish you would make a paper airplane out of one of them, and sit on it, hold on tightly, and fly right into my palms.

I would stay up all night and day,

standing and waiting on the rooftop,

hundreds of miles away,

just to feel you near me once again.

“Why don’t you dream like you used to anymore?”

You whisper in my ear one night,

because I realized what I ever needed was you in my life,

everything else is just a season that passes in a blink of an eye. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
