We know that beer isn’t the best thing for your waist — the term “beer belly” exists for a reason. But how does beer affect the rest of the body, particularly those of enthusiastic drinkers?

Well, if your man is really into beer, you might want to accept that he could grow … in cup size (and we’re not talking about plastic cups, here).

According to herbalist and author of Sacred and Herbal Healing Beer, Stephen Harrod Buhner, beer that contains hops also contain a feminine product that can increase levels of estrogen, and result in man boobs and erectile dysfunction. Yikes!

The ingredient, hops, are female flowers from the hop plant that make the beer bitter and gives off an aroma. Hops have also been used in medicine to treat insomnia, according to Medical Daily.

The one type of beer to really watch out for is India Pale Ale, which is considered particularly hoppy, along with craft beers. According to Newser, craft beers and India Pale Ale use 400 percent to 500 percent more hops than other beers.

If you love these types of beers, don’t freak out just yet. The good news is that this hypothesis hasn’t been scientifically tested; no studies have been conducted to see if there is a tie between man boobs and hops.

Drink up with your own discretion. Or, maybe you should trade in your craft beer for a nice Guinness. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
