Anne Hathaway Will Play a Conservative Influencer Who Preaches That Women Should Submit to Their Husbands, Then Wakes Up in 1855 and Has to Live It
“Yesteryear” is Caro Claire Burke’s satirical thriller, a bestseller and a Good Morning America Book Club pick after Knopf published it in April 2026. The character is Natalie Mills, a 32-year-old tradwife influencer with 8 million followers, selling a from-scratch pioneer fantasy: sourdough, raw milk, submission, a handsome cowboy husband. Then she wakes up in 1855 and the aesthetic is just the life, with no nannies, no appliances, and no way out.

Hathaway is starring and producing through her banner Somewhere Pictures. Amazon MGM won the film rights in a competitive July 2024 auction, before the book was even out, in a deal reported around $450,000 against $2 million.

Emmy-winning screenwriter Hannah Friedman (“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Willow”) is adapting.
