1. American terrorist goes on murderous rampage in Isla Vista: If you haven’t heard this story yet, thanks for coming out from under your rock. Elliot Rodger, who’s the son of a ‘Hunger Games’ assistant director, drove his BMW around the community of Isla Vista killing six other students and injuring 13 others before taking his own life. His demented action succeeded in turning the event into a politicized debate about guns and mental health, while also turning genders, classes, and races against each other in a childish finger-pointing game using hash-tags. The mature thing to do would be to unify as young Americans, avoid taking defenses, and perhaps inviting the new kid over to your kickback or even try to understand why those around you are upset instead of poking fun at them. This wasn’t about being entitled to a genders body, white privilege, being half-Asian, or killing a majority of men; it’s about wanting the glory one had always sought but more importantly about craving acceptance, whether it’s from women or popular kids. #notallpopularkids. One last thing: parents, please teach your kids how to handle rejection, it avoids feeling entitled to 8th place trophies, that new job, or someone’s body.
Your take: “making it more difficult to ban guns for the mentally unstable is parallel to making it more difficult for the mentally unstable to buy black market drugs.”
2. Christian Pakistani stoned to death by her own family, including her father: You may have read in the past few weeks that farzana Parveen, a Pakistani woman who married a Christian man and was three months pregnant with his child, was sentenced to death for “blasphemy” when she married for love against her family’s, and the country’s, wishes. 20 members of her family, including brothers and her own father, stoned her to death on Tuesday in broad daylight in front of a Pakistani high court. Her husband managed to escape but still stands trial, as does their lawyer. Her father said “I killed my daughter as she had insulted all of our family by marrying a man without our consent, and I have no regret over it.” He is likely to be acquitted.
Your take: “Man, we have it pretty good in America. I wish our government would stop sending upwards of $1 billion to Pakistan annually, especially since it’s the same country that harbored Osama Bin Laden.
3. Former Microsoft CEO to buy LA Clippers from Donald Sterling: Weeks after Donald Sterling made publicized racist comments and was banned from the NBA, Steve Ballmer has signed a record breaking $2 billion binding agreement to buy the Clippers franchise. The deal is still waiting on Sterling’s family consent and a 75% approval from the other team’s owners, but a reliable source confirms the news. Sterling bought the team in 1981 for $12 million (a 16,567% return) and Ballmer is worth an estimated $20 billion.
Your take: “I wish Dr. Dre would buy the Clippers, but that would leave him with only a billion dollars in cash. Jay Z would really feel poor at that point with only $500 million.”
4. Maya Angelou died: Angelou, 86, died of natural causes Wednesday. She was one of modern history’s best writers and was a civil rights activist, playwright, poet, entertainment producer, actress, dancer, and former prostitute. This type of life led her to write seven autobiographies on top of many other literary achievements.
Your take: “today, be a rainbow is someone’s cloud.”
5. Sisters gang-raped in India and hung from a tree: A woman is raped every 22 minutes in India, a country with 1.2 billion people. On Tuesday night, a father reported his 14-year-old and 15-year-old girls missing after they went into a field to since there was no toilet in their home. The following morning, they were found hanging from a tree and authorities say they were gang-raped and strangled to death. 4 people have been arrested for the crime, including two police officers.
Your take: “This isn’t True Detective, this is real life.”

SpaceX unveils the Dragon V2, which can carry 7 humans to space stations and back. Its news because their previous spacecraft’s have been unmanned and were not reusable, which is a major waste of money when they have a 1.6 billion contract with NASA for 8 missions.
Solar Roadways exceeds $1.3 million in crowd-funding as it popularizes the concept of replacing all roads in the U.S. with solar panels.
