Two Brazilian Nuns Thought Each Other Was Insufferable in the Convent. They Left, Fell in Love, and Got Married in 2025

Francília Costa and Luiza Silvério met in a Brazilian convent in 2019, and the dislike was mutual. Silvério called Costa “an unbearable and stuck-up little nun.” Costa didn’t like Silvério either, she just couldn’t say why.

Living side by side wore the edges off, and they became close friends. Both were struggling: Costa had panic attacks through the pandemic and started questioning whether convent life was good for her, while Silvério battled anxiety and depression after her grandmother died.

“Religious life is very beautiful, but you need physical and mental health. It is not enough only to pray or to have a vocation,” Costa said.

They left the convent together in 2020 for their mental health. Neither could afford to live alone, so they kept sharing a home. One night in 2023 they watched ‘Love In The Villa’, a rom-com about two enemies who fall for each other in a shared villa, and Costa realized how she really felt. She told Silvério, who kissed her.

The couple, known online as Dupla Oxiuai, married in 2025 and posed with an image of Our Lady Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil.

“Maybe we do not have a photo at the altar of a church, but we have one with Our Lady Aparecida,” Silvério said. “For us, she represents gratitude, intercession and the consecration of our family to God.”
